Frankincense Oil Benefits

I often get asked what my favourite essential oil is. Even though it’s SO hard to pick just one – I’d have to choose frankincense. My husband’s name just happens to be Frank. So, of course, it’s his favourite oil too. I love that the frankincense oil benefits can be used on every member of the family.

In the ancient world, frankincense was a highly prized commodity and often referred to as “liquid gold.”

The warming, woody and sweet aroma of the oil is just incredible. When used aromatically, Frankincense promotes feelings of peace and overall wellness. Topical or internal use of this “king of oils” provides modern health benefits.*

How to Use Frankincense Oil

I enjoy the frankincense oil benefits in a number of ways. Every member of our family (dog included) uses Frankincense essential oil daily. It’s diffused during nap time and also dropped into this mama’s morning moisturizer. Here are a couple of ways to enjoy frankincense oil benefits.

  • Diffuse a few drops or apply to the palms of hands and deeply inhale – the woody aroma brings feelings of relaxation and peace.
  • Directly apply Frankincense to any skin irritation.
  • Take one to two drops in a veggie capsule to support cellular health.*
  • Dilute and apply to the bottoms of the feet for babies and children.

Importance of Sourcing

Pure frankincense essential oil should not come with a cheap price tag. Harvested from wild Boswellia trees in Somalia, the difficult process usually takes over five months to complete. Due to the time-consuming harvest, the growers are often unable to sell their frankincense resins for a fair price.

Because of the lengthy process and higher cost, Frankincense is a commonly adulterated oil. It has usually been distilled with gum resins, alcohol or other solvents. This is a cheaper process but leaves the oil chock full of harmful chemicals.

Even though they may be labelled as “pure,” many frankincense oils for sale at box stores, grocery stores and even health food stores are definitely anything but. One quick and easy way to check for the purity of an oil is to see if it has been labelled as “Aromatic use only. Not for internal or topical use.” Steer clear of these oils as they are typically laden with harmful chemicals not labelled on the bottle.

Finding an essential oil company that pays their growers a fair price for their harvest while also providing a 100% pure product is a must. There is only one brand of essential oils I trust and use on my family every day. Learn more about them here.
