Side Dishes

They’re a classic vegetable served with most dinners, but poor carrots are never really the star of the show. That’s why I love this recipe. The slightly-sweet but earthy flavour of the carrots really shine when paired with some lemon juice and honey. The rosemary adds a perfect amount of herbaceous aroma.

Fresh & Easy Rainbow Quinoa Salad Summertime is the season of backyard BBQs and get-togethers. The dish that I usually bring along to these events is my Rainbow Quinoa Salad. I love it because it’s super easy to throw together and can feed a crowd. Even though it has lots of fresh veggies and herbs, the dish is still hearty thanks to the quinoa. You can easily make this the day before so you have one less thing to worry about! Nature’s Superseed Even though it’s commonly known as an “ancient grain,” quinoa is actually considered a seed. It’s naturally gluten-free, too. Quinoa is a rare plant source of complete protein – meaning it contains all of the amino acids, including the ten essential amino acids. This is a perfect food for vegetarians and vegans to include in their diet (omnivores too!). Not only

Maple Balsamic Tempeh Bites Tempeh is one of my favourite plant-based proteins. I love that one serving boasts 16 grams of protein and 5 grams of fibre! If you’re not familiar with tempeh, it’s made through a fermentation process that binds the soybeans into a cake form. The combination of the balsamic and maple make for a tangy sweet flavour that is to die for. Tamari is a wheat-free soy sauce that gives the perfect punch of saltiness. I'm telling you

Cauliflower Hash Browns I’m going to go out on a limb and say cauliflower is my favourite vegetable. I love all the ways I can cook it up - especially these cauliflower hash browns. They are the perfect companion to your weekend breakfast or delicious as a quick snack. I love pairing this with my Rosemary Garlic Aioli, too! Cauliflower Power The white vegetable is actually part of the cruciferous family, which are known to be great liver cleansers. Cauliflower contains the phytonutrient glucosinolate, an active compound that supports enzyme production. Your liver uses these specific enzymes to flush carcinogens from the body. This powerful vegetable also contains sulforaphane, which has been shown to kill cancer stem cells. It’s also incredibly anti-inflammatory for the body. Reducing inflammation is key to helping prevent disease. Mix It Up I love when people take my recipes and put their

Shaved Brussels Sprouts Brussels Sprouts. The vegetable most people grow up hating, which is so unfortunate because if cooked properly, they’re DELICIOUS. As a kid, I was one of those haters. Now, I am in love with the tiny green vegetables. Shaving the Brussels sprouts helps break down the fibres and makes them a little less chewy. Plus the simple addition of onion, garlic, and lemon helps mask any bitterness for the picky eater. These Shaved Brussels Sprouts are a perfect side dish to roasted chicken. Use some bone broth as a base for gravy too! Mmmmmm… I think this is dinner for me tonight! Vitamin's K & C The little cruciferous vegetable is full of amazing health benefits. Just one cup of these shaved Brussels sprouts – which is 2 servings of veggies by the way – contains over 240% of your daily

Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries Have veggie haters at home? These Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries are the perfect way to sneak in a serving or two of vegetables into even the pickiest of eaters. Their savoury-sweet flavour and crispy outside is the best combination. Pair these Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries with my Rosemary Garlic Aioli and you’ve got yourself a winning dish ;) Antioxidants, Anti-Inflammatory & Good for Blood-Sugar While sweet potatoes are insanely delicious, they also supplying a wide arrange of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and blood-sugar-regulating nutrients. High in the antioxidant vitamin C, sweet potatoes are an excellent immune boosting addition to your meal. Another delicious antioxidant found in the orange coloured vegetable is beta-carotene. In the body, beta-carotene converts to vitamin A - a healing nutrient for the skin and the digestive system. When it comes to regulating blood sugar

Amazing Crispy Cauliflower Wings My husband loves chicken wings. Like really loves them. And when I first whipped up these Amazing Crispy Cauliflower Wings, we were both blown away by how insanely good they were. They even had a similar texture to chicken wings surprisingly. We ate an entire plate of these for dinner after we put Jackson to bed on Friday night. Big date night for us ;) This is definitely one of our favourite plant-based meals to have. We’re big dippers so we always have a dill aioli on the side. We usually pair it with a fresh garden salad and crispy baked sweet potato wedges. While I often get asked if I’m vegetarian or vegan, I am not. But, about 90% of our week we are eating plant-based meals. When we do choose to include animal protein in our diet,
